Krillion Game geography guide.
A familiar place name can still be wrong for the category in the prompt. This guide uses two real Krillion Game questions to show why the noun after a country name matters.
01 / States only
Australia’s six states exclude its territories.
This Krillion Game prompt asks: “Name one of Australia’s six states.” Western Australia belongs to that set; the Northern Territory does not. Both are Australian jurisdictions, but the prompt says states. Geoscience Australia lists Western Australia under the states and Northern Territory separately as a territory.
Question-bank check
In: Western Australia, Victoria, Tasmania. Out: Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory. The game records “WA” as an alias for Western Australia. Its 100-point tier is an editorial game choice, not a claim about how often people answer it.
When a question names a political unit, make a two-part check: Is the place in the country, and is it the kind of unit named? Passing the first check alone is not enough.
02 / Scope can expand
Canada’s prompt includes both kinds.
Another Krillion Game question asks for “a province or territory of Canada.” Here Nunavut is valid. Canada has ten provinces and three territories, and our set includes all 13. A player who silently changes that wording to “province” would throw away three valid options.
“One of Australia’s six states” means territories stay out.
“A province or territory of Canada” means Nunavut, Yukon, and Northwest Territories stay in.
The same method applies beyond geography. Look for a named organisation, publication edition, era, or number range that fixes the collection. An answer can be generally true but outside this particular list.
03 / Before submitting
A ten-second scope check.
- Say the category: “state,” “province or territory,” or the exact unit in the prompt.
- Name the exclusion: identify one tempting nearby answer that does not belong.
- Keep a fallback: submit a known member if the rarer candidate remains uncertain as the timer runs down.
